Bruce Nicol Counselling is a private, Wellington-based counselling service located at 181 Glenmore Street in Kelburn.

We specialise in helping people get through transitional stages of their life, whether that be during tertiary training, post tertiary years, or mid-career, or entry into retirement.

We also provide a high performance programme to help you consistently operate at peak performance in your professional and personal life.


About Bruce

Bruce Nicol has worked for over 30 years as a registered psychologist helping people overcome a variety of challenges. Throughout his career he has worked with people of all ages and ethnic groups in NZ and overseas.

Once the chairperson of the Wellington Branch of the New Zealand Psychological Society, Bruce began his career as an educational psychologist after teaching for several years. At the time, New Zealand was pioneering early intervention methods, including Whanau Ora and other community practices. He soon became one of New Zealand's four regional directors working for the Department of Social Welfare as the head of a multidisciplinary team. Eventually Bruce left to set up his own private practice to work with leaders in the private and public sector.

Bruce began his training in Jungian dream analysis in 1989. At present he has developed a process that looks at the whole person, from your neurophysiology to your emotional and spiritual self. This is  a neo-Jungian approach using dreams for the depth work people can use to access their deepest self.

Bruce has worked as a coach of managers since 1995. He has worked with Victoria University Wellington, run classes for MBA students, worked with Bank of New Zealand, Capital Coast District Health Board, and with a variety of different CEOs. Bruce has worked in change management, beginning with New Zealand Rail since the 1980s.

Bruce provides unparalleled support for anyone who might not feel entirely content with where there life is at. Bruce is the director of Bruce Nicol Counselling.


what we do

Millions of things happen to us every day, and usually we just react automatically without thinking. But sometimes things start to weigh us down - whether it's stress at work, a feeling of stagnation in our relationships, or an inability to figure out what we want.

We've helped a lot of people overcome these problems, and that experience has given us a set of practical tools that we can teach you to use. These tools include breathwork, mindfulness, and reflecting on the dreams you've had as your brain keeps thinking about the previous day. Bruce published his process in 2003 in a book called "Your Self Awareness Triangle".

We'll teach you how to reflect on where you're at, feel detached from the panic of life, and take proactive steps to get where you want to be one day at a time.

While people often meet with Bruce with some trauma or stuckedness, Bruce also has High Performance Programmes based on sound empirical neurological research.
